The Lowest Rank in Paradise

The Lowest Rank in Paradise

Al Mughira ibn Shu`ba narrated that the Prophet, sallallahu `alaihi wa sallam, said:

“Musa `alaihis salam asked Allah: Who is of the lowest rank among those of Paradise? He said: He is a man who comes after those of Paradise have been entered into it.” Then it is said to him, “Enter Paradise.” He says: O my Rabb Allah, how could I? People had already taken their places and got their grants? He is then told: Will you be satisfies if you have the possessions of a king of the world. He says: I am satisfied O my Rabb. Then Allah says: that is for you, and like it, and a like, and a like, and a like.” For the fifth he says ‘I am pleased O my Rabb’. Allah says: this is for you and like it ten folds, and also whatever you like and what pleases your eyes. The man says: I am pleased O my Rabb!…” [Muslim]

The Reward For Treating Your Spouse Kindly

The Reward For Treating Your Spouse Kindly

By Sheikh Muhammed Salih Al-Munajjid

I ask Allaah to preserve the love and happiness between you, and to fill the houses of all Muslims with that which has filled your house of good companionship and kind treatment. I give you many glad tidings of which our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) spoke when explaining the reward of the wife who is as you described:

It was narrated from ‘Abd al-Rahmaan ibn ‘Awf (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“If a woman does her five (daily prayers), fasts her month (Ramadaan), guards her chastity and obeys her husband, it will be said to her: Enter whichever of the gates of Paradise you want.”

Narrated by Ahmad (1/191). The editors of al-Musnad said: It is hasan li ghayrihi (hasan because of corroborating evidence). It was classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Targheeb (1932).

It was narrated from Anas (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“Shall I not tell you about your men in Paradise?” We said: Yes, O Messenger of Allaah. He said: “The Prophet will be in Paradise, the Siddeeq will be in Paradise, the man who visits his brother who lives far away and visits him only for the sake of Allaah will be in Paradise. Shall I not tell you about your women in Paradise?” We said: Yes, O Messenger of Allaah. He said: “The loving and fertile one who, if she gets angry or is mistreated or her husband gets angry says, ‘Here is my hand in your hand, I shall not sleep until you are pleased.'”

Narrated by al-Tabaraani in al-Mu’jam al-Awsat (2/206). It was also narrated from a number of other Sahaabah, hence it was classed as hasan by al-Albaani in al-Silsilah al-Saheehah (3380) and in Saheeh al-Targheeb (1942).

And it was narrated from Husayn ibn Muhsin (may Allaah be pleased with him) that his paternal aunt went to the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) concerning some need and he met her need, then he said: “Do you have a husband?” She said: “Yes.” He said: “How are you with him?” She said: “I do what he tells me, except what is beyond me.” He said: “Look at how you are with him, for he is your Paradise and your Hell.”

Narrated by Ahmad (4/341). The editors of al-Musnad said: Its isnaad may be understood to be hasan. al-Mundhiri said: A jayyid (good) isnaad. It was classed as saheeh by al-Haakim in al-Mustadrak (6/383) and al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Targheeb (1933).

Al-Manaawi said in Fayd al-Qadeer (3/60):

i.e., he is the cause of your entering Paradise if he is pleased with you, and the cause of your entering Hell if he is displeased with you. So treat him well and do not disobey his commands with regard to that which is not a sin. End quote.

As for the glad tidings which came to the husband who treats his wife kindly, it is when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) testified that he had perfect faith which dictated that he should enter Paradise, and that he is superior to all people.

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“The most perfect of the believers in faith is the one who is best in attitude, and the best of you is the one who is best in attitude towards his womenfolk.”

Narrated by al-Tirmidhi (1162); he said it is a hasan saheeh hadeeth. It was classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi.

And Allaah knows best.

The way to seek knowledge

The way to seek knowledge

Question: Briefly, what is the way to seek knowledge, and may Allaah reward you with good?

Response: Briefly, in point form, the way to seek knowledge (is as follows):

1) Take care to memorise the Book of Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) and allocate some time every day to memorise and read, such that your recitation is with reflection and understanding. And if you come across a beneficial point whilst reading, then make a note of it;

2) Take care to memorise that which is easy (for you) from the authentic Sunnah of the Messenger (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) and from that (I recommend) memorising (the book) ((‘Umdatul-Ahkaam));

3) Take care in concentrating and confirming (whilst seeking knowledge) such that you do not take a little knowledge from here and a little from there. This is because this wastes your time and (unnecessarily) busies your mind;

4) Start with the smaller books and study them well, then move on to that which is above this (in level) until you obtain knowledge little by little in a manner which makes firm (the knowledge) in your heart and to that which you are at peace (comfortable) with;

5) Take care to understand the fundamental issues, their rules and the limits of all that passes by you, as it has been said:

((Whoever does not take care to learn the fundamentals/principles, then he has prevented (himself) from arriving at the conclusion/goal));

6) Discuss issues with your Shaykh or someone who is known for his knowledge and (practise of the) religion based upon the conditions you know. (Even if you are mentally able to discuss the issue).

Excellence of picking up food that has fallen from ones plate.

Excellence of picking up food that has fallen from ones plate.

 Jabir (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) said, “When a morsel of any of you falls, he should pick it up and remove any of the dirt on it and then eat it, and should not leave it for Satan nor should wipe his hand with towel until he has licked his fingers, for he does not know in what portion of the food the blessing lies.”
[Muslim].

Commentary:  This Hadith tells us to pick up a fallen morsel and eat it after cleaning the dirt that may have stuck on it. This marks the expression of humility overcoming Satan as well as getting the blessing. You will find those that are starting to neglect this directive of Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) because they think that this act will bring disgrace and dishonour upon them. To make matters worse, they throw away a large quantity of unconsumed food in street dumps and dunghills and drains. They even deem it necessary to leave over some food in plates and dishes, still less of licking them. What a pity, our generation have gone far away from the teachings and excellent example of our Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam). May Allah Guide us all. Ameen.

7 Tips on How to Stay Up after Fajr

7 Tips on How to Stay Up after Fajr

Nothing kills productivity like waking up at 10am to start your day, or waking up with just enough time to sloppily get dressed and race to work, arriving frantically and foggy-brained. You try to get through your To-Do List but before you know it, it is time for dinner, and then Isha prayer, and you are feeling quite unaccomplished. The problem is that you had a good 2-5 hours during which you could have achieved maximized productivity, but you slept through it!

What time am I talking about? The time right after Fajr prayers. It is a blessed time that Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) made dua for, He said: “O Allah, bless my Ummah in its early hours”.

Here are 7 ways to help you stay up after Fajr to become a beneficiary of blessings and success insha’Allah:

1. Go to bed early and rest

After the Isha prayer, the Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him) would not like to engage in unnecessary talk and would take to his house to go to sleep. This is the similar life-style for many communities where electricity has not created a false sense of daylight. Societies that maintain going down with the sun inevitably rise with the sun, making the most of their morning to do ‘ibaadah or secure their livelihood. If you need to fit in more sleep, try taking a nap before or after Zhuhr.

 2. Untie your three knots

”During your sleep, Satan knots three knots at the back of the head of each of you, and he breathes the following words at each knot, ‘The night is, long, so keep on sleeping,’ If that person wakes up and celebrates the praises of Allah, then one knot is undone, and when he performs ablution the second knot is undone, and when he prays, all the knots are undone, and he gets up in the morning lively and in a good mood, otherwise he gets up dull and gloomy. ” (Bukhari)

It is not a surprise that Shaitan is trying to prevent us from the worship of Allah and prevent us from a productive morning. However, Alhamdulillah, we were given the prescription to combat his whispering:

a. Celebrate the praises of Allah by saying:

Alhamdulillahi allathee ahyaanaa ba’da maa amaatanaa wa ilayhin nushoor.

‘All praise and thanks is for Allaah who gave us life after having taken it from us and unto Him is the Resurrection.‘

b. Perform ablution

c. Pray

Then after you have prayed, do not allow yourself to get back into bed. Perhaps splashing your face with cold water, having a bite to eat, or drinking some water or fruit juice will help brush off any drowsiness.

3. Perform the prescribed dhikr after Fajr

If you still have the urge to jump back into your warm comfy bed after Fajr, remember that the best extension of the prayer is the dhikr that you perform afterwards.

”The angels keep on asking Allah’s forgiveness for anyone of you, as long as he is at his Musalla (praying place) and he does not pass wind (Hadath). They say, ‘O Allah! Forgive him, O Allah! be Merciful to him.” (Bukhari)

Plus, the longer you stay up, the less likely you will go back to sleep (and the less likely you will be able to fall asleep).

You can find the dua to say after prayer and in the morning in Fortress of a Muslim, or online at http://www.makedua.com

 4. Aim to pray Duha

Duha prayer is an extra voluntary prayer you can pray approximately 20 minutes after sunrise until 45 minutes before Zhuhr prayer.

In the morning charity is due from every bone in the body of every one of you. Every utterance of Allah’s glorification is an act of charity (Subhan Allah). Every utterance of praise of Him is an act of charity (Alhamdulillah), every utterance of profession of His Oneness is an act of charity (Laa ilaha ill Allah), every utterance of profession of His Greatness is an act of charity (Allahu Akbar), enjoining good is an act of charity, forbidding what is distreputable is an act of charity, and two rak’ahs which one prays in the forenoon will suffice. [Muslim]

Who wouldn’t want that reward?

By the time it is allowed to pray Salat-ul-Duha, you will be more awake and will have already completed your morning dhikr

 5. Recite/reflect/memorize Quran

After Fajr prayer is an amazing time to be alone with the Quran. Before the day’s distractions set you off course, use this time to recite, reflect and memorize The Quran. If you are like me, if I do not read my daily dose of the Quran in the morning, I find it incredibly difficult to sit after work or at the end of the day to try to get some quality time with the Quran. Believe me, you will feel the benefit when you start your day remembering Allah.

Establish prayer at the decline of the sun [from its meridian] until the darkness of the night and [also] the Qur’an of dawn. Indeed, the recitation of dawn is ever witnessed. (17:78)

 6. Exercise

An early morning walk or stretches will get your blood moving and you will find that you have the energy to stay up and make the most of your day insha’Allah.

 7. Have a list of tasks ready

Has this ever happened to you? You are awake, bright and early, feeling particularly productive. You look around…and you begin to ask yourself what to do. If you do not have a plan for your morning, then you will inevitably waste time wandering and half-completing tasks. Use the morning wisely by writing your To-Do List first thing after Salat-ul-Duha, or even better, the night before. Aim to complete 3-5 tasks before you set off to work or school.

You will energized and fantastic having recited Quran, remembered Allah (dhikr), performed an extra prayer, and knocked off items from your To-Do List…all before you go to school or work! And you will still have the whole day ahead of you insha’Allah.

O Allah, help us benefit from the beautiful morning hours. Ameen.

What do we do if we find a contradiction between the Holy Qur`aan and science?

What do we do if we find a contradiction between the Holy Qur`aan and science?

There can be no contradiction between established sciences (as opposed to scientific theories like the theory of evolution) and Islam because the Holy Qur`aan and Sunnah are from Allah Almighty, the Creator of everything, and therefore from His perfect knowledge.

Allah Almighty says: “Then do they not reflect upon the Holy Qur`aan? If it had been from other than Allah Almighty, they would have found within it much contradiction.” (S 4: V 82)

We know that our knowledge continues to mature as we learn and discover new facts. Science itself is constantly “evolving”. What is a proven fact today may be discredited tomorrow as new evidences come to light. Therefore, since our knowledge is limited whenever we find an apparent contradiction between science and the Holy Qur`aan, we need to refer the matter to the scholars for clarification and not reject the Holy Qur`aan or Sunnah because of this apparent contradiction. Unlike many other religious texts, The Holy Qur`aan has in fact been substantiated by modern science rather than contradicted. The Holy Qur`aan speaks of matters that science has only been able to discover recently. All these are proofs to us about the Holy Qur`aan’s divine origins.

What has been related with regards to the coming of the Dajjal (the anti-Christ)?

What has been related with regards to the coming of the Dajjal (the anti-Christ)?

Our beloved Prophet (S.A.W.) informed his Ummah about all the good and bad things that he was aware of. Of the greatest trials that will afflict this Ummah would be the coming of the false messiah, the Dajjal. The books of Hadith contain many prophetic narrations informing us about the coming of the Dajjal. Unfortunately as space is limited, only one Hadith has been mentioned here. For further narrations regarding the Dajjal and other matters please view Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim.

An-Nawwas bin Sam’aan reported that the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) made mention of the Dajjal one day in the morning. He sometimes described him to be insignificant and sometimes described (his turmoil) as very significant until we felt as if he were in the cluster of the date-palm trees. When we went to the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) in the evening and he read (the signs of fear) in our faces, he said: “What is the matter with you?” We said: “O Allah’s Messenger! You made mention of Dajjal in the morning (sometimes describing him) to be insignificant and sometimes very important, until we began to think as if he were present in some part of the cluster of the date-palm trees.” Thereupon he said: “I harbour fear in regard to you in so many other things besides the Dajjal. If he comes forth while I am amongst you, I shall contend with him on your behalf, but if he comes forth while I am not amongst you, a man must contend on his own behalf and Allah Almighty will take care of every Muslim on my behalf (and safeguard him against his evil). He (Dajjal) would be a young man with twisted, contracted hair, and a blind eye. I compare him to ‘Abdul-’Uzza bin Qatan. He who amongst you would survive to see him should recite over him the opening verses of Surah Kahf. He would appear on the way between Syria and Iraq and would spread mischief right and left. O servants of Allah Almighty! Adhere to the path of Truth.”

We said: “O Allah’s Messenger! How long would he stay on the earth?” He said: “For forty days, one day like a year and one day like a month and one day like a week and the rest of the days would be like your days.: We said: “O Allah’s Messenger! Would one day’s prayer suffice for the prayers of day equal to one year?” Thereupon he said: “No, but you must make an estimate of time (and then observe prayer).” We said: “O Allah’s Messenger! How quickly would he walk upon the earth?” Thereupon he said: “Like cloud driven by the wind. He would come to the people and invite them (to a wrong religion) and they would affirm their faith in him and respond to him. He would then give command to the sky and there would be rainfall upon the earth and it would grow crops. Then in the evening, their posturing animals would come to them with their humps very high and their udders full of milk and their flanks stretched. He would then come to another group of people and invite them. But they would reject him and he would go away from them and there would be drought for them and nothing would be left with them in the form of wealth.

He would then walk through the waste land and say to it: ‘Bring forth your treasures’, and the treasures would come out and collect (themselves) before him like the swarm of bees. He would then call a person brimming with youth and strike him with the sword and cut him into two pieces and make these pieces lie at a distance which is generally between the archer and his target. He would then call that young man and he will come forward laughing with his face gleaming with happiness and it would at this very time that Allah Almighty would send Christ, son of Mary, and he will descend at the white minaret in the eastern side of Damascus wearing two garments lightly dyed with saffron and placing his hands on the wings of two Angels. When he would lower his head, there would fall beads of perspiration from his head, and when he would raise it up, beads like pearls would scatter from it. Every non-believer who would smell the odour of his self would die and his breath would reach as far as he would be able to see. He would then search for him (Dajjal) until he would catch hold of him at the gate of Ludd and would kill him. Then a people whom Allah Almighty had protected would come to Jesus, son of Mary, and he would wipe their faces and would inform them of their ranks in Paradise and it would be under such conditions that Allah Almighty would reveal to Jesus: “I have brought forth from amongst My servants such people against whom none would be able to fight; you take these people safely to Tur”, and then Allah Almighty would send Gog and Magog and they would swarm down from every slope. The first of them would pass the lake of Tibering and drink out of it. And when the last of them would pass, he would say: ‘There was once water there.’ Jesus and his companions would then be besieged here (at Tur) and they would be so much hard pressed that the head of the ox would be dearer to them than one hundred dinars and Allah’s Apostle, Jesus, and his companions would supplicate to Allah Almighty who would send to them insects which would attack their necks and in the morning they would perish like one single person. Allah’s Apostle, Jesus, and his companions would then come down to the earth and they would not find in the earth as much space as a single span which is not filled with their putrefaction and stench. Allah’s Apostle, Jesus, and his companions would then again beseech to Allah Almighty who would send birds whose necks would be like those of Bactrian camels and they would carry them and throw them where God would will.

Then Allah Almighty would send rain which no house of clay or the tent of camels’ hairs would keep out and it would wash away the earth until it could appear to be a mirror. Then the earth would be told to bring forth its fruit and restore its blessing and, as a result thereof, there would grow such a big pomegranate that a group of persons would be able to eat that, and seek shelter under its skin and cow would give so much milk that a whole party would be able to drink it. And the camel would give such a large quantity of milk that the whole tribe would be able to drink out of that and the sheep would give so much milk that the whole family would be able to drink out of that and at that time Allah Almighty would send a pleasant wind which would soothe people even under their armpits, and would take the life of every Muslim and only the wicked would survive who would commit adultery like asses and the Last Hour would come to them.” May Allah Almighty protect us from the fitnah of the Dajjal! And Allah Almighty knows best. (Sahih Muslim)

Excellence of saying Subhan-Allahi wa bihamdihi, Subhan-Allahil-Athiem

Excellence of saying Subhan-Allahi wa bihamdihi, Subhan-Allahil-Athiem

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) said, “There are two statements that are light for the tongue to remember, heavy in the Scales and are dear to the Merciful: ‘Subhan-Allahi wa bihamdihi, Subhan-Allahil-Athiem.’ [Glory be to Allah and Praise be to Him, Glory be to Allah, the Most Great.]
[Bukhari and Muslim].

Commentary: This Hadith affirms that man’s actions carry weight. On the Day of Judgement, his actions will be cast into the Balance. At that time Allah will endow these actions with weight, or according to some scholars, those records which register man’s actions will be weighed. This is quite possible for the reason that Almighty Allah is Capable of weighing things without even their physical form. This discussion apart, when actions will be cast into the Balance, the formula mentioned in the Hadith, the utterance of which is very easy, will prove weighty. Every Muslim should make it a practice to repeat them frequently.
